Friday September 13 we took Autumn to college. We left bright and early. She had mixed feelings. She was excited but her and Jaron had literally not been apart for even one day for over a month. She really didn't want to go but she did. We took her to Rexburg and checked into her apartment. Unfortunately we were the last roommate there out of five other girls and she got the worst room. Right up against the living room. Not only the loudest but the smallest. Oh well. She had a private room, we chose to pay a little more for a private room and don't regret it for a minute. After we got her room set up we headed to campus. She had to register for freshman orientation and we had to get her books, get her Icard, put some money on her dinning dollars account, and just other stuff. Rexburg is on a hill and it is a lot of walking. Not a fun campus to walk.Rich's back was killing him and it was hot, hot, hot that day. They don't allow shorts, or sandals on campus. Ugh. Kind of a stupid rule, but oh well. He went back and sat in the car for a while when we finished up. Then we had to go to parental/student orientation. President Clark talked to us then they released the kids to play games, the parents stayed for a while and President Clark talked some more. During the question and answer session we left and snuck away to get her books. the line was much shorter than it was earlier. After that we pretty much went back to the dorm and said our goodbyes. I cried almost all the way home. Rich thought I was being stupid because she is only 45 minutes away. Oh well. the next day was Saturday and she was in meetings all day long and that night campus held Inight (everything starts with an I cracks me up). it was basically a big party they throw for the whole campus that was 5.00 to get in and activities everywhere.
Autumn hasn't embraced college life like I had hoped. Honestly she is miserable up there. Her roommates are all really nice and she likes them but they are loud, loud, loud. They stay up super late and watch tv and are loud. I had to buy her some earplugs. She misses Jaron like crazy and hates being away from him. She leaves here Monday morning goes to class and usually FHE that night. Tuesday he either goes up or she meets him in Idaho Falls and they spend the night at his sisters house. Dont worry Mindy makes sure they are in separate beds. Wed. sometimes he goes up sometimes he doesn't. Thursday same thing. Friday class gets out about 1 and she comes home and stays the weekend. he is here non stop while she is home (except to sleep) but that's okay. Often they are off doing other things anyways. Monday rolls around and we start again.
We thought her bishop of the singles ward was going to give her a hard time. They are really strict on church service up there and will pull her ecclesiastical endorsement. My brother served in the Bishopric for a ward for a while and he said they hardly ever allow them to go to a different ward. It made me mad because she comes home and goes to the singles ward and is there every Sunday. It shouldn't matter where she goes as long as she does. She finally met with the Bishop and he agreed to transfer her records back here but he wasn't happy about it. Oh well.
In December we will move her home, she will take most of her classes online and drive up Tuesdays and Thursdays for classes. I think she will be so much happier, hopefully less stressed, and feel better.
