Birthday Bowling

Yesterday was Rich's 45th Birthday. He declared it was not his Birthday because he refuses to get any older. So on his non Birthday we decided to go bowling. I haven't been forever. Atleast 10 or more years. Let me tell you my score, or lack of really showed. Rich went about 6 weeks ago with Tymber and her achievment days group and they had a blast. The bowling alley is smoke free so it is wonderful. We all had a great time. Hope & Tymber bowled 1 lane with the bumpers up. Rich, Autumn and I bowled the other lane. I think Autumn and I should have been on the bumper up lane. The second game Rich & I both broke 100. When we league bowled his average was around 200 so he really didn't do that great either but it was so fun. Every time Hope would roll her ball she would shake her "booty" waiting for it to reach the pins (sometimes it was a long wait) then she would turn around and say "I got ripped off" it was funny. Other then bowling his Birthday was low key we didn't get him anything but he needs new tires for his truck once we get it out of the shop getting the new engine in it. Ouch. So he was more then good not getting any gifts. We did make him a cake. Hope insisted on it.

Naked Chicken? Oh my

I was making a huge pot of Chicken noodle soup for dinner. My brother in law Lyle called a few days ago and asked me to make him some. I had been thinking about it anyways and what perfect time it was cold and snowy. I make the soup and Richard makes the home made noodles. Yummy what a great husband he is. I had bought 2 whole chickens and was taking the skin off of them to throw them in the pot. Hope comes in "Mom, what are you doing" "I am making chicken noodle soup" " No mom, you are making that chicken naked" oh how great is the minds of a 4 year old. Then she had to go tell her dad I was in the kitchen making the chicken naked. Children are truly amazing.

The soup was so yummy and I made a ton. Rich took a lot to Lyle this morning. I hope he enjoys it. Also on the way to taking Autumn to young women's last night we have elderly neighbors and they are not in good health. They are the nicest people and everyone in the Ward loves them and watches out for them plus they have great kids. I decided they might like some soup also. I know her back is really bad and she can hardly stand so I doubt she cooks and he has cancer... I took the soup in and it was about 6:30 so I figured they had already eaten it was hot but I let them know they could put it in the fridge and have it today. They told me they hadn't eaten yet and were just getting ready to make a sandwich. They were very grateful and of course I had to share the naked chicken story. Today Magaret called me and told me how much they aprecitated the soup and thought it was so good. I may take them over some more in a day or so I really did make a lot and we will be eating it for days so I will share some more with them.

Just goes to show you Chicken noodle soup really is good for the soul.

50 Years

Today is my Mom and Dad's 50th wedding Anniversary. 50 years Wow it is so incredible.

This is the writ up in the paper Caralyn wrote

Tribute of Max & Jeneane Olson

Charles Max Olson & Bobby Jeneane Kimball were married February 12, 1959 in Idaho Falls, ID. They lived in Idaho Falls on Dunbar Ave for over 10 years and then moved out to the country on Crowley Road in which they still enjoy living there today. They have three children, Rory (Lorie), Rick (Caralyn) and Rhonda (Richard). They have 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Max is a retired Local 648 Pipefitter who worked for Atlas Mechanical and Jeneane taught ceramics and painting in her home. When their kids were little they enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing & dirt biking. They have been very involved in their children’s lives and have been extremely supportive of any activity that they may be involved in. They have never missed an event of the grandchildren in their various sports and church involvement, which has meant a great deal to the grandkids. They enjoy spending time with their family and have spent the past several winters in Arizona enjoying the warm weather. In the summers they enjoy camping, fishing and playing with their grandkids. We are proud to be their family and of their accomplishment and example to be married for 50 years! We love you!

Fire?

Autumn woke me up this morning about 6 asking if she could get in the shower that her lamp had melted on her pillow and she smelled like smoke. I have to tell you not very often am I in a dead sleep where I don't react to my kids when they come in to speak to me, but I had taken a sleeping pill due to not sleeping the past 2 nights. I was out COLD. Anyways she showered and a while later said her finger had a blister on it and Rich had told her I needed to look at it becuase it was pretty bad. Once again I was still out of it (feel the guilt) and I told her it was up to her whatever she wanted to do . She went to school & when I asked Rich a while later how bad her blister was he said it was pretty big & covered almost her whole knuckle. She went over to my neighbors house because my neighbor has some really good blister cream Autumn had borrowed this summer when she put her hand on a hot stove (insert eye roll) so Michelle fixed her up and off to school she went. When I finally woke up and looked at her lamp it freaked me out. It was melted all the way and totally ruined. So then of course I was worried about Autumn but she never called me. This afternoon when she got home she showed me her blister and it was HUGE and it had already popped. She told me it didn't hurt that much but she did have a hard time writing in class. Then she went downstairs and brought up her pillow to show me where the plastic from the lamp had melted on to her pillow. Then she showed me how her pillowcase had a burn mark all the way through it and burnt into the pillow also. Holy crap it was this close - to starting on fire. Ummm yeah in my daughters bed where she was sleeping. It makes me ill that this has happend. We bought these lamps on clearance at Wal Mart for the girls for Christmas thinking they would be a good reading & night light for them. Needless to say Hope and Tymbers lamps are going in the garbage. I am almost ill over it. Autumn told me to let it go that it was in the past and I needed to get past it. Maybe when my heart starts to beat again I can get past it. Mommy guilt really is a horrible thing. Right now I feel like I should be up for the reward of worst mom.

All Autumn was concerned about was how bad her finger was going to hurt tonight when she went for Baptism for the Dead at the Temple. It is her favorite thing in the world and she was upset to think she might miss it and was willing to go and be in pain to be able to be Baptised. I called one of her Young Women leaders and they told me she could just do the Confirming and not have to get in the water so she has gone off happily to do that instead. Life goes on and all is right in the teenage world. Me, I am sure when I look in the mirror there will be more grey hair.

A Mother's Advice To Her Daughter

A Mother's Advice To Her Daughter

"Be strong. Be intelligent. Smile.Know that beauty has everything to do with how you feel about yourself and nothing to do with looks or other people's opinions. Never do anything just because everyone else is, if you believe it's wrong. Always be true to yourself.
Expect the best from life and that's what you'll get. Learn from your mistakes and failures. Believe in God and His Word. Love and trust and be compassionate.
Make faces. Play in mud puddles. Take bubble baths. Turn off all the lights and watch lightening storms. Laugh, cry, and sing when you want to. Read everything you can get your hands on. Stand up for what is right especially if you stand alone.Don't allow yourself or people around you to tolerate prejudices of any kind.
Don't be afraid to try something new. Do something active at least once a week. Run through snow drifts. Spin in circles and roll down hills.
Pet puppies, hold kittens, and talk to babies. Take afternoon naps. Stay up to watch the sunrise. Never apologize for being a woman or for being yourself.Never forget that I love you more than any other person in the world, no matter how far apart we are you will always be my daughter."

Mean Mom

To all you Mean Mom's. Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me: I loved you enough to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home. I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep. I loved you enough to make you go pay for the bubble gum you had taken and tell the clerk, "I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it." I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes. I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect. I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart. But most of all, I loved you enough . . . to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it. Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too. And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them. Was your Mom mean? I know mine was. We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too. Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less. We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, empty the trash and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do. She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds and had eyes in the back of her head. Then, life was really tough! Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. While everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait until we were 16. Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault. Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was. I think that is what's wrong with the world today. It just doesn't have enough mean moms

I really hope by posting this one day my kids will look back and appreciate the mean mom that i am. That they will understand why we have rules why we make them clean their rooms and do chores an why it is so important to get good grades in school

Steelers win the Superbowl

Yep the Steelers won the Superbowl..... what does this mean and why do I care? Anyone that knows Richard knows he is a HUGE Steelers fan. So this of course means he is happy, happy, happy. This makes me happy because he is not grouchy and mopey to live with. It was a good game. Very intense. It came down to the wire and I thought he was going to jump out of his skin a few times. Men get so weird when it comes to sports. But then again I know women have weird quirks men don't understand so it all works out I guess.
We went to the grocery store and he made me wear his Steelers shirt and his Steelers coat. He of course had on his Steelers shirt (he has a lot) and his Steelers jacket. Men were commenting to me and all I could tell them was my husband dressed me this morning. He was pretty excited. Now life can get back to normal & I won't have to watch over and over and over football interviews, football talk and so on. Well I probably will for another week or so. You know what else is great? NFL Season with Directv is over. That means no more grouchy men calling in on Sundays to complain about their NFL package and tv not working. Instead the grouchy people will call and complain about something else I am sure. They always manage to.
On to other things we were all downstairs and Rich called Autumn a pansy ass and Hope pipes up... yep Autumn is a pansy ass huh dad. (BIG OOPS) Rich said we don't say that word Hope it is a naughty word and of course Hope says "we don't say what word Dad, ass?" It was pretty hard not to laugh but of course I didn't. Just reminds us to be really careful around little ears.
