Upper GI

Autumn had a upper G.I. today so we could try to get some answers as to why she is sick all the time. The procedure was pretty simple, they put an I.V. in her did conscious sedation and it took about 15 minutes. They told me she wouldn't remember much and she didn't but goodness she was funny. The Dr. said the good thing was they didn't find anything and the bad thing is they didn't find anything. He said she had a few "erosion's" in her lining that were not ulcers but were red and irritated and some of her lining was also irritated. He took a few biopsies  but did not expect the results to be bad. The next step is a four hour test where she has to fast and then they feed her eggs with dye in it and they image her stomach as it is digesting the food to see if there are digestion issues. He said after that if they find nothing then they usually recommend removing the gallbladder. The bad thing about that is it is no guarantee she will feel better and it is surgery. If it isn't the gallbladder than she is without one and still sick. I don't think I would allow them to do the surgery "just because" unless they could prove it was the gallbladder. I think we would start doing diet changes and other things first. Dr. Davis did say she may have gallstone crystals that do not show up in the tests. He gave her medicine for 10 days and said if she feels better in a week and then when the pills run out we will know it's crystals. He also put her on prescription Zantac to help her lining. Interesting he told me the stomach pills the other Dr. had her on could actually cause stomach problems. Hmm.

Frustrating not having answers but at the same time it is nice to know it's not something serious.
